INDIA bloc plans mock rehearsals ahead of RS poll
Congress members meet chief minister Hemant Soren on Monday

Ranchi: INDIA bloc members are planning mock poll rehearsals on June 16 and 17 at the residence of chief minister Hemant Soren, as part of its strategy for the June 18 Rajya Sabha election. The move is part of the alliance’s move to ensure that its MLAs follow norms while voting. On Monday, Congress’ Jharkhand in-charge K Raju along with senior functionaries of the party, met Hemant at his residence to chalk out modalities for the election to two seats from the state. While JMM and Congress, part of INDIA bloc, have fielded Baidyanath Ram and Pranav Jha, respectively, NDA is backing outgoing Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh, Parimal Nathwani, making the contest triangular.Nathwani, who was a two-time Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand, has turned Congress more jittery with the allegations of possibile horse-trading.Talking to reporters after the meeting, Raju reiterated that all alliance partners and their MLAs will remain united to ensure victory of both their candidates. “These meetings are part of the coordination efforts for the poll. We had a healthy discussion with the CM, who is the captain of the ship, and discussed various measures to ensure victory of our candidates,” he said. The INDIA bloc has 56 MLAs in its fold. Each candidate will require 28 first-preference votes. NDA, on the other hand, has 24 MLAs, four short of ensuring victory for the independent candidate (Nathwani).BJP too held a meeting in the evening where MLAs from the NDA camp were present. BJP’s Latehar MLA Prakash Ram, however, didn’t attend owing to ill health. Sources said that he got admitted to hospital on Monday morning, prompting speculations in power corridors.
