Ranchi: The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) has demanded permission for residential-cum-commercial use in housing colonies at Harmu, Bariatu and Argora.Association members said that “a practical solution is needed by allowing residential-cum-commercial use in housing colonies and adopting a mixed-use policy in Jharkhand on the lines of other states”. A delegation of the association met housing and urban development minister Sudivya Kumar on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum on the issue. The demand comes amid growing concern among traders after the state housing board initiated cancellation of trade licences and ordered closure of commercial establishments in these colonies, citing their residential status in line with recent SC directives. Business owners reported disruptions and uncertainty, as many establishments have been operating for years.FJCCI said sudden enforcement affected livelihoods and local economic activity, urging authorities to adopt a practical approach. The chamber has proposed a regulated framework allowing limited commercial use within residential areas. It stressed that a balanced policy would protect both residential character and the interests of small businesses operating in these localities.
