Ranchi: Amid mounting complaints of poor ambulance services, health minister Irfan Ansari on Thursday announced that civil surgeons will take over the management of all 108 ambulances in the state until a new service provider is appointed. In the latest incident, the family of the 15-year-old Gumla student alleged that delays in treatment and the failure of ambulance services contributed to her death while she was being taken to Rims on Wednesday.Ansari said the health department would soon lodge an FIR against the agency currently managing the 108 ambulance fleet for repeated lapses in service.“The tendering process to appoint a new agency has already been completed. Until the new agency takes charge, civil surgeons will manage the 108 ambulances across the state,” he said. The minister added that the department would convene a meeting on July 21 and direct the existing agency to hand over all ambulances stationed at Sadar hospitals to the respective civil surgeons, who will oversee their operations during the transition period.
