Jamshedpur: It was a proud moment for Jamshedpur’s Tanisha Gautam, 19 , who became part of the team that manufactured India’s first Made-in-India commercial semiconductor chips, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.The Prime Minister inaugurated the country’s first CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plant in Sanand, Gujarat. The occasion also marked the official handover of the first batch of Made-in-India commercial semiconductor chips to an international customer in Japan.Tanisha was among a select group of women employees who got an opportunity to interact with Modi during the landmark event. During her brief interaction, she spoke about her journey from a humble family background in the Steel City to pursuing a diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and becoming part of the semiconductor manufacturing facility in Sanand.She explained how determination and hard work helped her realise her dreams and contribute to one of India’s most ambitious technology initiatives. Modi praised her confidence, technical knowledge and achievements.“It gives me immense happiness to see that a young and aspiring girl from the tribal region of Jharkhand is part of the team that manufactured these semiconductor chips,” Modi said after interacting with Tanisha, according to her father, Tripurari Gautam, a journalist.Calling it a double celebration for the family, Gautam said, “First, we are overwhelmed that Tanisha is part of the team that manufactured the country’s first home-grown semiconductor chips, which will now reach the international market. Second, my daughter had the opportunity to interact with Modi ji and share her journey from the Steel City to Sanand in Gujarat.”A resident of Bagbera, Gautam said Tanisha completed her higher secondary education from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jamshedpur, in 2022. She then pursued a diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Tata Steel Technical Institute, formerly Tata Steel Institute of Technology , which is run in collaboration with the Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF), completing the course in 2025.Alongside her diploma, she pursued a part-time online course in Industrial Fire Safety Management (IFSM), emerging as the Jharkhand topper. She later underwent training in machine operation systems at Dr Reddy’s pharmaceutical facility in Hyderabad in 2025.Since April 2026, Tanisha has been working as a Diploma Engineer Trainee at CG Semi’s semiconductor manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
