Hazaribag: A 53-year-old man was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants in Bishnugarh block of the district late on Friday. The deceased was identified as Bhuvneshwar Mahto of Bara village.The herd of 10 elephants entered Bazaar Tand area of Bara village from Chalkari forest. At around 11:30 pm, Mahto, who was heading to a field to answer nature’s call, encountered the herd, which knocked him on the ground and trampled him, leading to his death on the spot.On receiving information about the incident, villagers came out of their houses and raised an alarm. Following the commotion, the herd moved towards the Atka area. The herd comprised more than 10 elephants.Subhash Singh, the officer-in charge of Bishnugarh police station, said the body was handed over to Mahto’s relatives for postmortem examination. “A forest department team is present in the area to monitor the herd’s movements,” he said.
