Bokaro: Out of the around 30 private students’ hostels, coaching centres, and libraries operating in the city, none has obtained the mandatory fire safety No Objection Certificates (NOC), data available with the Jharkhand fire services reveal.Three eminent coaching centres inspected on Wednesday did not possess the fire safety NOC, fire department officials said.DSP (City) Rajeev Ranjan said, “The inspection covered fire extinguishers, emergency exits, electrical safety systems and evacuation preparedness. Several lapses were identified and further investigation is underway.”Terming the situation “deeply concerning”, officer in-charge of the district fire services Bhagwan Ojha said, “Most of the coaching centres operate from upper floors of commercial plots in City Centre area. All of these establishments, besides hostels and libraries, reportedly have only a single staircase for entry and exit.”DC Ajay Nath Jha stated, “Negligence of fire safety norms will not be tolerated.”The coaching institutes located under Chas Nagar Nigam area also are running without fire safety NOC.Recently, a fire had broken out in a building at City Centre, forcing students to rush to rooftops and escape by climbing boundary walls, sources said.
