Palamu man held for making extortion calls
Incidents of extortion took a notable twist when 31-year-old J.P. Shukla was detained for allegedly demanding a hefty Rs 1.2 crore in connection with a contentious 64-decimal land plot in Housing Colony.

Daltonganj: A 31-year-old man was arrested for making extortion calls and demanding Rs 1.2 crore over a dispute plot of land in the city, the police said on Wednesday.The accused J P Shukla had made extortion calls to Housing Colony resident Nand Kumar Yadav. Officers of the Town police station said Shukla was arrested on Tuesday after Yadav lodged an FIR against him. Police said the extortion calls revolved around 64 decimals of prime land in the Housing Colony, which is disputed land. Shukla is also a resident of the same colony.Jyoti Lal Rajwar, the officer-in-charge of Town police station, said, “He is a violator of the Arms Act and was sent to jails off and on.” Shukla had five criminal cases registered against him in Ranchi, Garhwa and Palamu districts since 2014, police said. He was an accused in firing at a deputy superintendent of police in Ranchi, said the town police.Police seized two mobile phones belonging to Shukla, which were used to make the extortion calls to Yadav. He was forwarded to judicial custody on Wednesday.
