Ranchi: Ranchi MP and Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth on Tuesday introduced “Namo Stall” in Ranchi under the PM SVANidhi Scheme in presence of other BJP ministers. He distributed pushcarts with storage capacity and weighing scales to 5 per cent of street vendors in the initial phase.Seth said the initiative is aimed at improving the working conditions of vendors as Ranchi expands. “As Ranchi is growing, we want every colony to have such pushcarts, so that these vendors do not sit near gutter or road, which is hazardous to both their health as well as health of consumers and also doesn’t become the cause of any traffic jam,” he said.Calling it a first step towards improving vendors’ lives, Seth said the government is also planning to install solar cells on each pushcart to generate electricity for LED lights and mobile charging. He added that sheds had been provided so that “both costumers and sellers are protected from both lighting and rain.”Seth said contact information of each vendor would be displayed on the stall and could not be changed, nor could the stall be sold, for five years. “We are now starting with this ‘Namo Stall’ and giving the pushcart to only 5 vendors, which will later on increase tenfold,” he said.Later, Ranchi Mayor Roshni Khalkho said, “We are grateful to RMC for helping us with this project and later, we hope that every ward will have Namo Stalls.”
