Ranchi youth drowns in Bhairavi Dam

Ramgarh: A 20-year-old youth from Ranchi died while bathing at Bhairvi Jalashaya dam under Rajrappa police station limits on Wednesday, police said.The deceased was identified as Hamid Ansari of Doranda.Rajrappa police station in-charge Krishna Kumar on Thursday said that said Ansari had come to the dam to enjoy a fun dip when he slipped into deep waters. “Locals retrieved him and sent him to a hospital, but was declared brought dead,” Kumar said.The spillway of Bhairvi dam, which resembles a waterfall during discharge, has turned into a major attraction with the crowd.Gola block pramukh Jaleshwar Mahto said the site is drawing a huge number of visitors. “Some youths are performing stunts by jumping from a height which is dangerous,” he said, adding that he has asked block officials to take steps to prevent people from doing such activities.Ramgarh deputy commissioner Rituraj said the administration has taken cognisance of the growing footfall. “Circle officers in Gola and Dulmi have been directed to take steps to avoid any kind of untoward incidents. Those who violate safety guidelines will face action,” he said.Visitors, however, continue to flock to the site. Binod Chaudhary from Chitarpur, who visited with his family, said the place is “fantastic to have fun in water” and should be developed as a tourist destination.Bhairvi Jalashaya dam, also known as Sotai dam in Hohad village, has now joined Rajrappa temple and Patratu Lake Resort as a key summer hotspot in the district.
