Ranchi: Old and congested commercial hubs of the state capital, including Daily Market and New Market, are set for a revamp as Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) prepares a blueprint to modernise the city’s traditional trading centres. The plan aims to equip these markets with better infrastructure, improved amenities, sustainable facilities and easier access for shopkeepers and shoppers.National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd (NBCC) has submitted a redevelopment proposal to the civic body. The project will focus on establishments managed by Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) and RMC in key localities, including Daily Market on Main Road, New Market on Ratu Road and the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Bus Terminal premises at Khadgarha.Municipal commissioner Sushant Gaurav said the NBCC will conduct a market status and demand survey in the next few days before signing a formal agreement with the RMC. “The aim is to have at least as many shops as there already are, and even more,” Gaurav said. The modernisation plan includes contemporary architectural designs, streamlined shop layouts, seamless transit corridors, upgraded sanitation systems, public spaces, improved civic utilities and smart traffic management measures. These interventions are aimed at decongesting high-footfall areas and creating a safer commercial environment. At Daily Market, structures spread over 1.17 acres will make way for a multilevel parking facility, a modern commercial complex and a hotel building. The redevelopment is expected to streamline shop allotments, provide organised spaces for local vendors and help address chronic traffic snarls on Main Road.At the Khadgarha bus terminal, dilapidated RRDA and RMC shops will be replaced with an organised service hub comprising a commercial complex and a hotel. At New Market, a triangular plot has been identified for a new commercial complex.“The purpose of these projects is to provide a better business environment for traders, deliver improved facilities to citizens and strengthen the city’s traffic, parking and infrastructure,” Gaurav said.
