Two women found dead in Dhanbad bathroom, electrocution suspected

Dhanbad: Two women were found dead inside a bathroom at BCCL’s A-Type colony under Putki police station limits late on Wednesday, police said on Thursday, suspecting it was a case of electrocution. The deceased were identified as Shobha Sinha, 50, the homeowner, and Shanti Devi, 40, a domestic worker employed at the house.According to police and locals, Sinha recently returned to Putki after spending nearly four months at her daughter’s residence and was getting her house cleaned when the incident occurred. Preliminary findings suggest a short circuit in the bathroom during the cleaning work could have caused the deaths. The incident came to light after Shanti, who left her Indira Awas Colony home around noon for work, failed to return by evening. Simultaneously, Sinha’s elder daughter in Pune was unable to contact her mother and requested neighbours check on her.Around 8.30 pm, family members and neighbours reached the house. When repeated knocks went unanswered, they broke open the door and entered the residence. Sinha was found lying on the bathroom floor, while Shanti’s body was found on top of her. Suspecting an electrical hazard, residents first ensured the colony’s power supply was switched off before entering the bathroom.Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain said the bodies were sent for post-mortem. Police said preliminary evidence points to death by electrocution, but all angles are being examined.
