Met issues yellow alert for heavy rain over 4 days
Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Ranchi and other districts on Monday

Ranchi: The Met office on Sunday issued a yellow alert for heavy rain, thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places in the state for four days due to a depression over the Bay of Bengal.Officials at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre said several parts are likely to receive heavy rainfall, while moderate rain is expected across the state over the next three to four days.According to the bulletin, the well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts intensified into a depression. It was located about 50 km south-southeast of Balasore in Odisha, 60 km northeast of Chandbali in Odisha and 60 km south-southwest of Digha in Bengal.The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and cross the north Odisha coast between Chandbali and Digha, close to Balasore, during the next 24 hours. It is then expected to move further west-northwestwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh.For Monday, the Met office has forecast thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places across the state. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Gumla, Ranchi, Lohardaga, Latehar, Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and Hazaribag districts.On Tuesday, thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places, with heavy rain expected in north-eastern and adjoining central parts of the state, including Dhanbad. Similar weather conditions are likely over the next two days, with heavy rain expected at isolated places in north-eastern Jharkhand on Wednesday.Abhishek Anand, deputy director of the Ranchi Met office, said that the rain window would be favourable for paddy transplantation.Till Sunday morning, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms was recorded at a few places. Jagannathpur block in West Singhbhum received the highest rainfall of 50.4 mm. Daltonganj recorded the highest temperature of 35.5 degrees Celsius. Ranchi recorded a maximum of 30°C.
