Probe into pvt hospital over negligence, high bill after teen’s death
Inspection report will be submitted to the DC soon, civil surgeon Prabhat Kumar said

Ranchi: Following a directive from chief minister Hemant Soren on Saturday, a four-member inquiry committee conducted a comprehensive inspection at a private hospital in the city, following allegations of medical negligence and exorbitant bills. The probe was initiated after the family of 18-year-old Raju Kumar Ranjan from Latehar district, who died on July 1, alleged that a case of fractured leg was mismanaged, resulting in infection and fatality, while the hospital raised a medical bill of nearly Rs 22 lakh.Taking cognisance of the matter, the CM ordered deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri on X to take immediate action. “Take immediate cognisance and conduct a full investigation of the matter. Upon finding the guilty, ensure strict action against all culprits and inform accordingly,” he wrote.Bhajantri immediately instructed the civil surgeon to constitute a district-level investigation team to probe the allegations and submit a detailed report. Subsequently, a team comprising two doctors and two administrative officers visited the hospital.Civil surgeon Dr Prabhat Kumar told TOI on Saturday evening, “The inspection was conducted, and the report is being compiled. It will be submitted to the DC soon.”Health minister Irfan Ansari directed additional chief secretary (health) Ajoy Kumar to set up a separate high-level inquiry committee to ensure a fair and time-bound investigation.“The case is extremely serious, and if the hospital is found guilty during the investigation, the strictest possible action will be taken in accordance with the rules. Ensuring the safety, dignity and quality of healthcare services for patients remains our utmost priority,” Ansari wrote on X.Ranjan was admitted to the hospital more than a month ago with a fractured leg suffered in an accident. Following surgery, his family allegedly requested an extended stay for aftercare and removal of stitches rather than discharge him. The family alleged he contracted a fatal infection during the period.
